David McCarthy Barbour, Sr., 69, Erwin, died Friday, February 22, 2019, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family, following a brief illness.
David was a native of Smithfield, NC, and a son of the late Max Leo Barbour, Sr., and Ethel Catherine McCarthy Barbour.
He was formerly employed in retail sales, most recently as a sales associate with The Fresh Market.
In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by two brothers, Max Leo Barbour, Jr. and Joseph Bryant Barbour.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Barbour; his son, David Barbour, Jr. and wife Tracy; step-daughter, Amy Ferrell and husband Kenneth, Knoxville; step-son, James Francis and wife Kala, Johnson City; one brother, John Barbour and wife Kim, Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Catherine Barbour Batten and husband Franky, Raleigh, NC, Syvonne Barbour Callahan and husband Greg, Johnston County, NC; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no formal service, however, the family will receive friends and share memories of David on Thursday, February 28, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 P.M., in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home.
In-lieu-of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in David’s name to Niswonger Children’s Hospital, 400 N. State of Franklin Rd. Johnson City, TN 37604.
