Cecilia Elizabeth McNutt Spritzer

 

Cecilia Elizabeth McNutt Spritzer, 73, of Johnson City, Tennessee died peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 5, 2018 after a short illness.  She was surrounded by family members.

 

Cecilia is survived by her husband of 42 years, Dr. Allan D. Spritzer of Johnson City; her son, Shaun (Judy) Pezant of Birmingham, AL; her grandson, Evan Pezant of Birmingham, AL; and her siblings, Amelia (Dr. Joseph D.) Lewis, Edna McWilliams, Melanie (Clift) Payne, and Hershel William McNutt, Jr. all of the Birmingham area; and Pamela Whaley of Grand Forks, ND.

 

Cecilia was born on November 22, 1944 in Clarksville, TN to the late Ruth Alverson McNutt and Hershel William McNutt, Sr.  She grew up in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa in 1979 with a B.S. degree in Health Care Management.  Her specialized field of study was hospice care. She was formerly employed as a medical records administrator at the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical Center.

 

At The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa she met her husband, Dr. Al Spritzer, a faculty member in the business school. They married in 1976 and the pair moved to Johnson City, TN in 1981 when Dr. Spritzer became dean of the ETSU College of Business.  For eighteen years, Mrs. Spritzer, known by her friends and family as Cecil, served with warmth and grace as the First Lady of the College of Business.  Her community service activities included membership on the founding board of directors of the first hospice care facility established in Johnson City. 

 

Cecil will be fondly remembered for her kindness and compassion and the happiness that she brought to many in the community and elsewhere.

 

A Celebration of Cecil’s Life will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Monte Vista Memorial Park, 1900 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601.  Those planning to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Cecil’s name to the Allan D. and Cecilia M. Spritzer Business Scholarship Endowment, East Tennessee State University Foundation, P.O. Box 70721, Johnson City, TN 37614, or to the Avalon Hospice, 208 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, TN 37604.
